Aeolus

Depth: 90-10ft

Length: 426’

Sinking: July 1988 as an Artificial Reef

Charters: offshore roughly 2hrs from inlet

History: The Aeolus was originally laid down as a 426 ft long attack cargo ship by the name of Turandot in April of 1945. In 1954 the Nave repurposed the ship as a cable repair ship and renamed it Aeolus.
Dive Notes: The Aeolus sits about 25 miles out and is roughly a 2.5 hour boat ride. the wreck is broken up into three main sections. The stern sits upright and is the most popular site, it is comprised of several decks and an area most refer to as the ”shark lounge”. the shark lounge is located where the stern is broken off. The middle section looks as of a giant picked up the ship, dumped out its contents and smushed it flat. this part contains much of the machinery and can be difficult to navigate in poor visibility. The bow is intact and lays on its starboard side. The wreck is home to many different sea creatures including sandtiger sharks, sandbar sharks, loggerhead sea turtles, Atlantic stingrays, slipper lobster, flounder, grouper, and many other denizens.
